Coromandel Workers Council has been set up with the vision to support equity in the workplace by offering services that enable workers and businesses to know and understand their rights and responsibilities.

our story

In October 2020 the Coromandel Workers Council (CWC) was officially set up to provide help and support to all workers across the Coromandel Peninsula (Te Tara-o-te-Ika a Māui) and provide services to business to create equitable workplaces.

We are a small team of dedicated people who care about the rights of all workers. We want to help create a working environment where both workers and business owners know and understand their rights and responsibilities.

We started the CWC because we believe that workers need to receive better support, advocacy and representation in their workplaces across the peninsula. We also realised that getting information about workers rights in the workplace and all of the issues that can come with them is not easily accessible in our somewhat remote and cut off part of the world. We wanted to make it as easy as possible for anyone to find the answers and get the help that they needed.

Rather than trying to become a union ourselves we looked around to see who we could join forces with to provide us with the kind of help and knowledge unions are really good at.  We came across One Union (the best little union for workers) and developed a great working partnership where they can take on the heavy lifting that goes along with work place issues.
